How the calculator works

The calculator multiplies the number of returns you enter by the average preparation fee you enter. The independent-office figure represents gross preparation fees before any software costs, business overhead, taxes, bank-product fees, refunds, marketing costs, or other expenses. The comparison applies an editable illustrative retention share of 60% to those gross fees. The difference is not a forecast of additional profit.
